SKILLS PROFILE.

Finance

Undergraduate accountancy has given me a firm grounding in dealing with cash flow, profit and loss accounts, other company accounts, AR and AP functions. Negotiated loans and investments to facilitate capital projects.  Managed an operations budget in excess of US$64 million.

Human Resources

Responsible for the smooth running of Human Resources, including, hiring, contracts, policy manuals, dispute resolution and other sensitive personnel issues, orientation, housing, banking, etc. Introduced Success Factor SAP HR software.

Strategic Planning

Extensive experience gained managing large capital expenditure programs for Canadian Academy, British School in Tokyo, greefield new build and Dulwich College Beijing leading the annual Operations and CAPEX Budget planning.  Strengthened through implementing new accounting software and campus-wide security review and updates.  Led the master facility development plan at CA.

Change Management

Led changes to the financial school year calendar to align with statutory reporting of the local ward office and national tax authority.  Involving changes to external and internal accounting practices. Implemented full review and 5-year plan for updating and upskilling the administration department at BST.  Planning campus expansion, from 1,500 to 2,200 students at DCB, the new EYs building.

Time Management

Extensive experience leading several school departments, finance, HR, facilities, maintenance, H&S, housing, emergency procedures, security, food service, transportation, summer and after school lets, medical center, and safeguarding.  Hit deadlines with high quality work.

Presentation Skills

More than ten years of experience presenting to the school’s Board, Finance, Facilities Committees and global HQ boards.  As well as addressing the faculty and professional peers.

1994 – 1998   University of Central Lancashire, Preston. BA (Hons) Business Studies. One semester at the University of Extramadura in Spain (Erasmus programme). One year in Hong Kong as a hotel management trainee.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE.

Aug ’22 – present day Downe House School Director of Finance and Business Enterprise.  Member of the senior leadership team.  Responsible for managing the annual budgets.  Oversee the annual audit.  Lead the Finance and General Purposes Committee.  Lead a team of six in the Finance department. Implementing new software and systems within the department to modernize practices and improve service for all stakeholders. Lead the school’s expansion overseas, reviewing the progress of DH Muscat and DH Riyadh while building partnerships in new overseas locations.  Lead the rental of the existing campus and expansion of summer/after school programs to maximize income for the school.

Aug ‘19 – July ’22  Dulwich College Beijing Director of Business Administration.  Member of the college leadership team.  Responsible for all non-academic departments, Finance, HR, Technology, Procurement, Facility management and improvement, external programmes.  Deputy Safeguarding lead. Partnered with Government relations, admission and marketing to continuously improve the college.  Reviewing school expansion plans and master facility development.  Working on salary and benefits review to fully align with proposed changes to Chinese income tax regulations.

Aug ‘17 – July ’19  The British School in Tokyo Director of Operations.  Member of the school leadership team.  Responsible for HR, Technology, Facilities and all other non-educational core activities.  School expansion planning from 1,050 to potential 1,500 pupils.  Completed the construction of an off-site sports field and clubhouse project.

Aug ‘12 – July ‘17  Canadian Academy Director of Finance and Business Operations.  Member of the Core Planning team. Led the ‘Inspired Employee’ Committee implementing a faculty appraisal system. Leading the Facilities Committee to implement a 10-year Master Facilities Plan. Leading the Finance Committee. Member of the School’s Board Advisory Council. Dormitory Parent.

Feb ‘07 – July ‘12   Canadian Academy Educator.  ESOL, Computer Applications (Apple Distinguished Educator) and MYP Drama teacher and Head of Fine Arts Department.  Led the Fine Arts Department through MYP implementation. Led the Salary and Benefits Committee.

April ‘03 – Feb ‘07 Otemon Gakuin Senior High School Educator and Administrator.  Lead English teacher.  Organised foreign exchange trips and sister school arrangements for all grade levels.

July ‘98 – July ‘01  Oita City Board of Education, School Education Division.  Assistant Language Teacher.  The JET Programme.
